Karen Biala always had an interest in health. As an undergraduate student at Rutgers University, she volunteered at a refugee clinic in Tel Aviv, Israel and later interned in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Eric B. Chandler Health Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her experiences abroad and in her own community reinforced her passion for public health and led her to pursue a Master of Science degree in Global Health and Population with a concentration in infectious disease epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH). During graduate school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of Stall Stories, the student government’s weekly newsletter posted in select restrooms throughout the school. In her free time, she performed cultural dances as a member of the HSPH Student Dance Club.
